| Being in the Zone: Flow |
In my post of February 22nd I mentioned “flow”. This is a scientific concept, a term coined by the University of Chicago, to capture the essence of the state of mind in which we find ourselves when we are simply there in the peak performance zone. Flow encapsulates the idea, from so many of the participants involved in the University’s flow research, that, when you’re in that state of mind, everything just seems to fall effortlessly into place things flow more... |

| Self-Help Books: Reading or Living? |
I regularly have clients recommend uplifting books to me – indeed, over the years, quite a number have been added to the Recommended Reading area of Gurdy.Net. There are plenty of good books out there, plenty of reading, plenty to absorb and intrigue the mind. But, sooner or later, you’re going to have to stop reading and start doing. Otherwise, it would be like buying every travel or guide book that you could get your hands on for an exotic destination more... |

| Still Haven't Found What You're Looking For? |
| Many of the people with whom I talk tell me that they’re still searching for peace of mind – they mightn’t all use those exact words but, I reckon, that’s a good enough phrase to capture the wandering, seeking and hankering of the wayward mind. We’re all troubled by our wayward minds – whether that’s through the random thoughts that bombard us each day, or the restlessness that bedevils those who know, through their gut instinct, that there is more to life, more they should or could be doing, more than the routine of everyday life more... |

| It’s the Weekend! |
| Almost! It’s Friday morning (at least where I’m sitting) and people are looking forward to the weekend. Some have been looking forward to it from mid-week, some probably just live from one weekend to the next. But, if you’re “looking forward”, you’re not focused in the present moment – and the present moment is the most important moment that you have. If you’re living from one weekend to the next, what happens to the bit in the middle? more... |

| Wasting Your Energy |
| Even though I fully understand and appreciate that normal people are stark raving mad, it still never ceases to amaze me as to how much energy they pour into relaying negative news. Some actually take a warped delight in having the worst news first and being the first to depress as many people as possible with it. Lisa – my infinitely better half – regularly chats by ‘phone to our “old country”, Ireland, which is going through a far more traumatic economic more... |

| Dying to Live |
I think most people that I speak to are simply dying for a better life – for more success and happiness – for more balance in their lives – for a greater inner peace of mind. Unfortunately, however, they like the sound of what’s possible, they even fully intellectually understand the extraordinarily simple concepts – but they’re either fearful or simply to apathetic to take the small leap necessary. You see, in order to achieve effortless success and happiness, you have to let go of something that normal people hold dear more... |

| The Crime of Self Help |
I’ve been in the self-help field for many years – and I am getting increasingly frustrated by labelled a “self-help guru”. Because gurus, normally self-styled, are preying on vulnerable people, vulnerable souls – and getting the rest of us a bad name. Self-help is in the headlines this week as James Ray is charged with manslaughter related to the three “sweat lodge” deaths at his “Spiritual Warrior” workshop in Arizona. Undoubtedly accidents happen more... |

| Surely There Must be More to Life |
Many people have lots of good stuff in their lives – most of my clients, when they come to me first, are already successful (at least in some aspect of their lives) – but are still saying to themselves, surely there must be something else. There is, it’s called happiness. Money can’t buy you love! And money can’t buy you happiness. Happiness is peace of mind – and there’s only one place you’ll find that. In your own mind. So, you need to get to know the real you more... |
