The practice of 'short-selling', currently banned by a number of European governments, has been one of the primary forces in driving down the value of European banking shares, compromising their capital ratios, compounding an already delicate economic recovery and heaping more misery on elected Governments who no longer govern but are chasing the game where the rules are being set by the evil people who are betting on shares falling in the first place.

On top of all that, we have rating agencies - like Standard and Poors - who are making up the rules as they go, no doubt in favour of those who are playing the market at ordinary people's expense. For the first time in history, they have downgraded US debt - on the basis that the 'Whitehouse should have agreed a deal on increasing the ceiling on Government debt sooner' - some asshole is telling the US Government how to govern.

Surely the world has gone mad. Don't be surprised - the world has been mad for a long time. We all remember Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot and all the really bad guys. But what about the lunatics who caused the misery in Holland following the bursting of the tulip market bubble over one hundred years ago? What about the idiots who drove Wall Street to all time highs before the crash of 1929 - who obviously had learned nothing from their Dutch cousins! What about Black Monday, October 17, 1987? What about the Irish property bubble? What about, what about, what about...
