FOCUS ON FOCUS |
|
| Whatever your personal definition of happiness and success, focus is the key to achieving it. Above all else, focus means being present, fully immersed in the experience of the here and now... the way you feel when you're 'in the zone', how it feels when a moment of great achievement or beauty takes your breath away. But being present offers you so much more - because people who are present have presence and that makes you inspiring and inspirational - and, as a result, life becomes so much easier, even when bad stuff happens. | |
| Focus, however, is not just about being present. Your innate ability to focus has to be developed within a particular context... the context of what you want from life. | |
| So, these ten videos set out to explore the importance of focus, the levels of focus, the context in which you need to develop your own ability to focus and, obviously, what you need to do to train your mind to be as focused as possible. | |
| Simply click on each video's picture below to access the video of your choice... and remember, please work through this workshop in the order in which it is present. Otherwise it won't make much sense!!! | |
| 1 - THE IMPORTANCE OF FOCUS | |
| Ultimately, focus is all about paying attention to the here and now. But focus only becomes effective when it is practiced in context - the context of where you are and where you're going in life. In fact, focus on its own is a dangerous thing - you could be fully focused, but on the wrong thing! So ensuring that you understand the context in which you're focusing is vital. But, before we even get that far, we need to understand why focus is the pre-requisite to happiness and success. And that's where this Personal Development Workshop begins... | ![]() |
| 2 - THE LAYERS OF FOCUS | |
| You must be focused in the here and now. But this present focus does not happen in a vacuum - all focus takes place in context. And you need to ensure that you get your context right - otherwise you could become expert at focusing in the here and now but end up focusing on the wrong things. In the second video of this Personal Development Workshop we discuss the overall context within which moment to moment focus takes place and how there is much you need to get clear in your own mind prior to unleashing your focus on the here and now. | ![]() |
| 3 - STRATEGIC FOCUS | |
| Developing your ability to focus on the here and now without the backdrop of your strategic focus is like expending all your energy on learning how to fly a spacecraft without knowing where you are or where you're going - without having any access to a map or indeed, without even realizing that it's a spaceship you're piloting! You need to plot a course towards a place you want to go - or, even more to the point, a place that's best for you. Only then will your moment to moment focus move you in the right direction. | ![]() |
4 - OPERATIONAL FOCUS |
|
| Once you've got some kind of clarity on the things that are important to you in life, the things that make you happy and that turn you on, you are immediately better placed to know if what you've chosen to do right now is either appropriate (leading you in the right direction) or inappropriate (either a waste of your time and valuable energy - or worse, actually taking you in the wrong direction). This video explores the importance of ensuring that you're focused enough to recognize the difference - and to ensure that, as often as possible, you're doing the right thing. | ![]() |
| 5 - HOW TO FOCUS TO DEVELOP YOUR GUT INSTINCT | |
| The fifth video in this Personal Development Workshop will develop your understanding for the paramount importance of being able to become proficient at the art of focus to the extent that you can tap into inspiration. All truly great people pay attention to what we normal people call gut instinct - you've got to learn how to tune yourself in. It's a key part of what we discussed in the fourth video above... doing the right thing. And, if we do manage to take off our normal blinkers and really gain insight into our gut instinct, then we may discover that the things that are right to do would never have otherwise occurred to us. | ![]() |
| 6 - MORE ON GUT INSTINCT | |
| This video delves even deeper into the subject of gut instinct or inspiration. We need to address the key question "How will I know the difference between gut instinct and something that seemed like a good idea at the time!?!" The answer is that you have to cultivate your innate ability to pick up on the signals for what highly successful people call inspiration. Here I discuss how you could fruitfully spend an afternoon that might change the course of your life... | ![]() |
| 7 - TASK-RELATED FOCUS | |
| When it comes down to the reality of the moment, focus means being completely engrossed in the here and now - not in some idyllic manner but in a practical way that enables you be the very best you can be at doing what you're doing right here and right now. Having explored the strategic and operational levels of focus, this video, together with the next two videos, explores the concept of extra-ordinary focus in the moment and how we can develop our ability to become experts in the life-changing art of focus. | ![]() |
| 8 - TRAINING YOUR MIND TO FOCUS | |
| It's the eigth video in the series and we're down to the nuts and bolts of training your mind to focus in the here and now. Remember, you've got to be doing the right thing in the here and now and its 'rightness' relates to the big goals that you have in life. That said, you've got to overcome the biggest barrier that stands in everyone's way - your normal mind. When you have watched this video, you should then proceed to listen to or practice the mental training exercises that accomany it... | ![]() |
| 9 - MORE FOCUS TRAINING | |
| Starting your day with a little mental training is, obviously, better than not bothering at all! However, with the best will in the world, a mind focused at 8.00am will be all over the place a couple of hours later - it's the way we are. So, we need to use the 'props' that our daily lives provide us with to regularly and constantly re-focus our minds. The detailed routine of your daily life is both a curse and a blessing - a curse because, when we are habituated we are unfocused. A blessing because it provides us with endless opportunities for being focused. It's up to you, how you approach each mundane task is your decision... | ![]() |
| 10 - MAINTAINING YOUR FOCUS THROUGHOUT THE DAY | |
| Having worked through this Personal Development Workshop, you can know what you want out of life (or, better again, know what's best for you) - you can develop an 'instinct' for what's the right thing to be doing - you can fine tune your mind to pay attention to the here and now - you can deliberately start each morning with a mental exercise that develops that fine-tuning. But all it takes is a couple of useless thoughts to bring you all the way back to sqaure one! You see, the key thing in life is not to get focused - it's even more important to stay focused... | ![]() |
