THE HABIT OF SUCCESS |
|
| Stop to think about what you've done so far today and, more importantly, how you've done it. The psychological facts are simple: we perform our routine tasks habitually and, once we start behaving habitually, we give no conscious attention to what we're doing. This is a recipe for disaster - because your happiness and success depends on your ability to pay attention - that's what the workshop, Focus on Focus, was all about. | |
| In this series of videos, which will build week-by-week over the coming weeks, we explore the nature of habitual behaviour, how we're hard-wired to behave habitually, the biggest baddest habit of them all and, most importantly, how to break out of the cycle of habitual behaviour, thereby freeing your mind from its slavery to your conditioned habitual way of thinking. | |
| Simply click on each video's picture below to access the video of your choice... and remember, please work through this workshop in the order in which it is present. Otherwise it won't make much sense!!! | |
| 1 - WHAT'S SO BAD ABOUT HABITS | |
| You'll have come across books like The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People - but are habits really a good thing? As this first video in the latest series, The Habit of Success, explores, habitual behaviour - which starts when we're only a few days old - distances us from the reality fo the moment and causes us to react to what we perceive to be happening - rather than act in the context of what is actually taking place. In the course of the normal everyday life, this is a recipe for disaster... | ![]() |
| 2 - YOUR BIGGEST BADDEST HABIT | |
| How much oooomph are you getting out of life? In the course of a normal day could your life be described as 'not too bad'? Is that as good as it gets? In this second video in our new video series on habits, we explore the habit of a lifetime that's holding you back from getting everything that you want out of life. We're going to discuss how you simply cannot break this habit on its own - how you have to tease away the fabric of habitual behaviour in your daily life and watch your daily life simply change... | ![]() |
| 3 - BREAKING THE VICIOUS CIRCLE | |
| From the moment you woke up this morning, your automatic mind effortlessly slipped into cruise control - to enable you get all your routine things done without you having to pay attention. But that very process is leading you to pay attention to nothing - you never turn up to your own life! In this video we explore how you can break this cycle of mindlessness. If you don't, nothing will ever change in your life. If you do, the small changes that you make will change your life. So, here's how... | ![]() |
| 4 - MIND MANAGEMENT | |
| Not all habits are bad for us - it's automatic habitual 'living' (or merely existing) that does untold damage in our lives. You need to know the difference between when it is appropriate to employ habitual behaviour and when you can use habitually performed tasks as a mental exercise to enable you develop your mental focus. And you need to come up with a daily action plan to manage your mind accordingly. | ![]() |
| 5 - GOOD HABITS | |
| Although the normal mind's reliance on habitual behaviour leads us to pay attention to pretty much nothing at all, we simply could not live life without doing some things habitually. Imagine, for example, if you had to give your full attention to putting one foot in front of another to cross the street in front of oncoming traffic! Some habits are worth forming and using... the trick is, of course, to know the difference between what's good for you and what's leading you down a blind alley to nowhere. | ![]() |
| 6 - THE HABIT OF MEDITATION | |
The only way you can take real action is if you're focused in the here and now. Your normal mind, however, is not present but wandering down some dark alley being mugged by your own useless thoughts. You need to train to be present. Being present empowers you. And the most effective personal training there is for presence is meditation. You need to get into the habit of meditating, whilst taking care not to meditate habitually. |
